Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and Martyrs

The majestic Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and Martyrs saw the beginning of its construction in 1561. It was built over the structure of the Diocletian Baths. It was the great Michelangelo, in his old age, to follow the planning and the early stages of the construction, which were conducted in a non-destructive manner which respected what was the pre-existing structure.
Nowadays this is the church which hosts the official ceremonies of the Italian State.
